Our why

Billions of people lack access to clean water and toilets

It’s a dangerous reality that impacts everything from health and safety to education and the environment. Still, we are confident that this is a problem we can solve if we work together.

The impact on human life

Without proper sanitation systems like toilets, waste ends up in the water communities use for drinking, cleaning and bathing. Using contaminated water can lead to all kinds of infections and diseases – many of which can be fatal. But it’s totally preventable! Access to clean water and a toilet could save 1.4 million lives per year. You can be a part of that.

The impact on the planet

Untreated waste is a huge contributor to methane gas emissions, one of the most potent greenhouse gasses. In fact, the water and sanitation sectors account for a whopping almost 2% of global greenhouse gas emissions. That's the equivalent of the entire aeroplane industry. Treating waste properly can have a huge impact – on our air and our water (fishies and merpeople thank you).

The impact on vulnerable groups

Women, girls and people with disabilities are most likely to get sick, most likely to find themselves in dangerous situations and most likely to have their work or education disrupted by a lack of water and toilets. For example, around the globe, women spend an average of 200 million hours walking to collect water. Think of how much they could do with all that time. (Or not do! They deserve a nap.)

We can't do it alone

Our partners

By working with incredible non-profits, we’ve helped impact the lives of people all over the world. In 2023 alone, our partners have been able to give 845,408 people worldwide access to improved WASH services. Here are a few of the organisations we’ve worked with over the years.

Fresh Life

Fresh Life provides eco-friendly, waterless toilets to communities in densely populated, urban settlements in Kenya. They work with the residents and other partners to ensure safe waste removal and treatment. Then they convert the waste into useful products like organic fertiliser and biofuel!

We're proud to support WaterAid's work all over the world. They tackle the sanitation crisis through practical solutions, advocacy, education and systemic change.

Meet Octavia of Liquica, Timor-Leste

Before toilets were installed in Octavia's school, getting her period meant missing class to travel home and change her sanitary pad. You see, toilets are not just convenient. They're tools for accessible and equitable education. Amazing!

But what about the planet?

When Mama Earth's not happy, no one is. That's why we're committed to constantly evolving towards greater environmental sustainability in the full lifecycle of our product (and business!).

Eliminating greenhouse gasses

Farts are funny. Greenhouse gasses? Not so much. That is why we're working with our supply chain partners to choose renewable energy, enlisting the use of electric vehicles for delivery and partnering with Pachama to ensure our shipping is carbon neutral.

Solar panels make it to our warehouse

We convinced our landlord to install solar panels. Obviously, we had them spell out "CRAP."

Our carbon footprint

We did a full life cycle analysis of our products so we know where we should focus to significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Spoiler, it's not where you might think.

Making our shipping carbon neutral

We were thrilled to announce carbon neutral shipping a few years back. Here's a look at the process to get there.

Keeping forests intact

Every day, 1 million trees are cut down to make traditional toilet paper. 1 million of our planet's most precious resources are flushed down the toilet daily. It's crap! That's why our products are made from recycled fibres or FSC certified bamboo - never virgin trees.

Our No Deforestation Commitment

We love trees so much that we've made it official with a document outlining our promise to nurture and protect the world's forests.

What's so good about bamboo?

A lot of things. Learn more about this magic grass here.

What's recycled toilet paper?

No, it's not used loo roll. That'd be disgusting. But it is a super sustainable way to use the bathroom.

Choosing better materials

We want to make sure our products work for our customers, but they also have to work for Mama Earth. That's why it's important to us to use recycled materials in our products as well as ensuring all of our packaging can be easily recycled.

What's better - bamboo or recycled?

Depends what you're looking for! No matter what, our rolls are wayyyy better than wiping with virgin trees.
